You will never have enough of Sweden’s nature as it always offers you calmness and peacefulness. You are surrounded by large spruce trees, water, rocks and so much more. Some will say that a tree is a tree, and a forest a forest, but this nature reserve will prove their wrong! Brännan is a large nature reserve and offers a great trail of less than 5km round. It is an easy path, good to walk for toddlers and older. Might be carefull with weak knees, as the trail goes up and down. What makes this nature reserve special from the others?
“Controlled fires at Brännan”
Controlled fires are executed by LifeTaiga every now and then to restore the diversity of the nature reserve. The reserve entails 162 hectares of land and consists mainly spruce, rocks and ground coverage. This dense forest is subjected to a threat from a certain beetle that eats up the forest. It is invasive on its own, so mankind needs to give a helping hand to maintain spreading. Fires that are controlled will restore balance within the forest. As a result of these fires, the woodpecker has come back to mate, feed and raise babies. It is factual that certain species thrive best on the result of a forest fire. Brännan is a chosen spot as it can be a diversity-creating mix for wetlands, water, swamp forest and much more. See the detailed information on Länsstyrelsen. It is in Swedish, but with translation you will understand the meaning of the context.
During your walk you will find odd shaped trees as a result of the controlled fires. Here and there are places to rest and enjoy the view. We took with us a Swedish fika as the walk takes no longer than 70 minutes without kids. If you would like to know the exact coordinates of the parking and trail, please request our e-book and we happily share this information with you.
