Ivan’s Junkyard – car cemetery

For every car lover this is the place to be! If you are an enthousiast about history and urban exploring, this is the place to be! A car cemetery full with all kinds of cars, car parts and so much more. You will be amazed with what you shall see. The park is over 60 years old and has never been maintained. Until 2023 when a big discussion led to towing away the wrecks. A foundation arose and keeps the park safe as we speak. But how did this junkyard start, grow and still exist?

Two Norwegian brothers bought a piece of land just over the border with Sweden in Båstnäs. They were both car lovers and in the second world war they decided to trade in car parts. As their business grown, they bought more and more cars. Not just the regulars, but also military cars. The current car cemetery grew so fast, that cars where stacked upon each other! After many years they decided to quit their business and moved back to Norway. They abandoned the site and it became urban and overgrown by nature. Till this day they still own the site, but allow tourists to take nice walks among the old cars. There have been traps as parts got stolen, but thanks to the foundation their is a certain safe keeping.

The best way to visit this park is with your own vehicle. There is enough parking space and it is entirely free. The car cemetery requires a beautiful drive through Väster Fågelvik and continues to the border with Norway. This will automatically lead you to Halden Canal Regionalpark.
